We offer pure, true-to-type, Peregion Bean seed!!! Many seed companies sell seed that contains "solid mocha seeds". These are an off-type and are not Peregion because they are a different size and shape and have a completely different pod. We have spent many years isolating our plants in order to get the seed available in this listing, our Peregion Black strain (the "solid mocha" seeds), and the strain available in another listing, our Peregion Bicolor strain (aka the "buff with chocolate stripes" seeds).
Many people ask us why we would sell the off-type that has gotten mixed in with the original Peregion seed that other companies sell? That is a simple answer -- just because it is an off-type Bean doesn't make it a bad Bean. It was just erroneously mixed in with other seed.
We have grown Peregion Black in a trial with Negro, Black Turtle, Eclipse, Monos Negros, and other similar type beans to see if it is one of those. To date we have not found a match. Due to this, we have named this strain Peregion Black to reflect its origin.
Peregion Black beans are a heavy-producing bush habit bean. Pods are green and mature to having just a hint of purple blush, and produce 6-8 black beans. About 80 days to maturity (dry beans).

I grew Peregion many times over the years because our family likes them as baked beans. The last 10 to 15 years we noticed more and more that there was black seeds. They tasted okay, but didn't bake as well. Made a better soup bean. Interesting to find out that there was something wrong. It will be nice to have these separate for soup.
