Also known as Groseille or Groseille Rough. Red Currant is native to Peru and Brazil. They were first illustrated by Louis Feuille in 1725 and described by Carl Linnaeus in 1763. In 1883, Vilmorin coined the term 'red currant'. A 1918 Livingston Seed Company catalog called them "smallest of all sorts". No matter what they are called, they are always a must have when it comes to your garden! Big, bold plants produce masses of teeny tiny fruit; but what flavor! The sweet, smoky little guys pack a true tomato flavor that belies their size. Consider this one for the ornamental edibles portion of your garden. Neverending vines yield massive quantities of 1/2 inch fruits. Trellising or caging is definitely recommended for these guys, but I recommend using a larger diameter cage or use poles with strings as the foliage can get pretty dense during rainy years and make it a bit tricky to pick (as we experienced with our 15 inch cages and very wet summer this year). Indeterminate with dainty regular leaves. 75 days to maturity after transplanting.
We recommend growing Red Currant tomatoes in full sun. They do not require a pollinator in order to produce fruit. Planting and care instructions are included with each purchase.

I'm happy to have these little guys! Thank you for the surprise seed gift, too. Everything looks great. I'm only going to germinate a few of them now, since I placed my order pretty late. I'll store the rest carefully for next year. Can't wait to get these going. :)
